It is with greatest fascination one would enter into just by looking up into the sky, day or night and at any given point of time, the enormity of the creation of nature which has in store for those who understand, more so during the night, with so many objects one can observe and in a sense see within ourselves how small we are compared to the space that’s infinite. In spite of all this man is so engrossed and fallen pray to his own vanity to reach his materialistic goals, he more often than not, fails to take in this spectacle that is so clearly defined all around and above us.


It is such a pity that when compared with other things in tandem, we are here with a preset mission which we have missed out during the course of our lifestyle to truly appreciate the creation outside and within us, we live our miseries like nothing else matters but the momentary and temporary pretensions and miss out the big picture.


The best part is that, the sun which we take for granted is one of the best examples of a star that is so close by which it can be studied easily and of course has been done since the advance of technology, thanks to the scientists around the world, who have brought forth the make up of a star so clearly that the other far reaches of our neighbourhood stars can somewhat be ascertained about the composits that go into making up of some of the main sequence, the gaints & the super gaints.


From the moment of the greatest explosion THE BIG BANG uptill now say a period of maybe 14 billion years the spectacle is still being unfolded in very definite terms. When peered deep into the microwave background radiation and on to the UV & infra red belt we see the creation and annelation of galaxies itself that normally will be invisible in visible light.


Having a finite speed at which the light can travel, we can look exactly how the universe looked like during the making of the earlier ages and paradoxically the distruction in the distant past that has sculptured the present solar system and possibly many more solar systems within our visual limitations and beyond to which we are just about having a inkling about.


Being as large as it is and ever expanding probably to understand the depth would be beyond our present means and decipering the secrets will be too good to be true in ones lifetime.


Behind the facade of dust & gas, at the centre lies the greatest monster of all creations “THE BLACK HOLE”. This enormous object is the pivot, which governs the working of the entire galaxy itself. The sheer size and the gravitational pull has the might of millions if not billions of suns and is said that even light cannot escape its gravity. This massive object dines on the enormous supply of other near by stars, dust and gas and becomes even more denser and hotter that it starts to emit x-rays and gamma rays, which are the give away signatures of this beauties at the center of the galaxies.


Since the galaxies themselves are made up of billions of stars and other elements of long gone mergers with other neighbouring galaxies these galaxies grow to enormous sizes that the ray of light coming of from further of galaxies get distorted and a phenomenon called gravitational lensing occurs.


The galaxies we see merging now through Hubble, spitzer, galex and chandra telescopes has happened maybe a billion to upto 8 billion years ago and may have altered the whole scape of things by now. But since the light takes a long time to travel we see them as they were then and not as it is at present.


Some interesting objects that outshine the entire galactical clusters have been detected recently. This objects known as “QUASARS” or quasestellar objects are of immense source of radio waves, and are so far back in time that the light may have started out when the universe was only just beginning to take shape.


The galaxies come in different sizes and star densities. Some are called open clusters others closed clusters. Theis may be satellite galaxies themselves to other bigger galaxies which may be a part of a clusters called local group which are once again part of super clusters. Our galaxy the milkyway with about 200 billion stars is a part of 14 galaxies in the local group with one more observable galaxy called the andromeda being the nearest big galaxy visible to the naked eye.


With in the galaxy there are failed stars called brown drawfs which are not big enough to start the nuclear fussion process and hence remain in a incomplete phase. This maybe at least 80 times more massive than our planet Jupiter.


There are pulsars or millisec pulsars, so called because of their rotational properties which would have happened when the stars core.


Collapsed during the supernova, which may be more than 5 solar masses, gathering the materials ejected out and starting to spin at more than 60 times a sec in some extreme cases.


Supernovas are in a sense the building blocks for the next generation stars and planets, which after millions of years contract and clump themselves under gravity with heavier materials at the center creating the star, and the gases making up the planets in the outer fringes.


This drama of cycle of death of one star and beginning of another in this cosmic arena jolts us to our senses into thinking that our ordinary suns ie. In universal graph of stars, there are stars that are 25000 times more luminious than the sun or some that are 1000 time bigger, is one day in the distant future burn up its stock of gases convert itself into a red giant phase & in the process gobble up the planets up to the earths orbit and fall back upon itself to a white drawf stage proves that nothing is going to be the same as it appears as of now but will be keeping on changing till the end of time.


And last but not least the chapter cannot be closed without mentioning the dark matter and the dark energy which comprises of the rest of 80% of the unknown which may have the final say in the expansion and the deciding factor of all things in the future as all the visible matter in the universe amounts to only less then 20%.


In this context of universal time scale, any thing that was alive and kicking in this earth will amount to less than a blink of a eye and what we would have discovered, may be less than the proverbial tip of the ice berg.
